A Brief Biography of John W. Griggs

Although an amateur photographer for over 40 years, I found the digital revolution a catalyst for advancing my photography.  My art photography has been described as "otherworldly" and it conveys an aspect of the fantastic, while remaining grounded in photo realism.

I avoid the use of HDR techniques whenever possible in favor of other techniques to achieve the desired results.  When I do use it, my HDR is often indistinguishable from conventional photographs as I seek a "photo realistic" presentation -- but still with a special look.

I have enjoyed a career as an industrial designer which gives me a  unique vision of industrial archaeology and the entropic decay of once great American enterprises.  I've been finding more and more subject matter in rural sites now as well and may even be coming to preferring those sites.

I see the works of nature and humans as being one in the same which brings a unique perspective to the breakdown of mankind's works -- humans as a creature of nature and human constructions on par with a birds nest or a beehive. This creates a balanced continuum in which everything mankind creates eventually decays and continues to be part of the ongoing cycle of nature as God intended.

Everything passes, everything remains.

I live in the eastern USA in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania with my wife Anna. I have acheived a "certain age" with 4 children and 5 grandchildren (so far...)
